The story behind the club
My fifties turned out to be a real turning point in my life, and certainly not in the way I’d imagined.
I lost both my mum and dad, was diagnosed with ADHD, and found myself taking a long, hard look at my own health and wellbeing. Losing my parents was a huge wake up call. I started thinking about growing older and what I wanted the next chapter of my life to look like. I didn’t want to lose my strength or mobility. I wanted to feel active, capable and independent for as long as possible.
At the time, I weighed 18 stone. I sought counselling to understand my eating habits, learnt much more about nutrition, including the importance of protein as we get older, and started making lasting changes. I’ve since lost 7½ stone, but I want to be clear about something: I started Reformer Pilates when I was still 18 stone. I didn’t wait to reach a certain size before giving it a go.
Let’s just say I’ve probably joined every gym in the land. David Lloyd, health clubs, you name it, I’ve probably had the membership! Every time, I’d sign up full of enthusiasm, certain that this time I’d stick with it.
The only thing I ever really committed to was the spa!
I was brilliant at joining gyms. Actually exercising in them was another story. Until I discovered Reformer Pilates. I loved it from the start. In fact, I became a little bit addicted! For the first time, I’d found exercise I genuinely enjoyed, looked forward to and kept coming back to. It’s the one form of exercise I’ve truly committed to.
There was another benefit I hadn’t expected. With ADHD, my brain rarely feels quiet. But doing Reformer Pilates gave me a whole hour when my brain could switch off from the busy world.
No thinking about shopping lists. No thinking about jobs that needed doing. No mental to do list running in the background. I could focus on my breathing, my movements and what my body was doing.
For that one hour, the noise in my head stopped. It was time just for me.
That feeling became as important to me as building strength and improving mobility.
When I started at 18 stone, I certainly didn’t feel like the stereotypical Pilates girl. You know the image: matching sets, immaculate hair, everything looking effortlessly glamorous. It can be intimidating if you’re older, carrying extra weight or simply new to exercise.
I wanted to create a club where women feel welcome whatever their age, shape or size. Somewhere you don’t have to look a certain way, be flexible already or worry about keeping up with a class. Just come as you are.
Our private one to one sessions are about learning the movements, building strength and confidence and enjoying movement at your own pace. Because movement matters, and no one should feel that Pilates isn’t for them because of their size or age.
Fabulous Pilates Club is about feeling fabulous, not looking a certain way.

Absolutely! I didn't discover Reformer Pilates until I was in my fifties, so I know what it's like to start something completely new. You don't need any previous experience. I'll guide you through each movement, helping you feel comfortable and confident from your very first session.
Not at all! I started in my fifties because I wanted to build strength and maintain my mobility as I got older. Whatever stage of life you're at, it's never too late to start moving and investing in your future wellbeing.
Absolutely not! I weighed 18 stone when I first started Reformer Pilates. You don't need to lose weight, be flexible or reach a certain fitness level before beginning. Your sessions will be tailored to your ability and starting point.
I completely understand because I felt nervous when I first started too! Your session is entirely focused on you. I'll guide you through each movement, explain everything clearly and give you time to ask questions. There's no rush and no expectation that you should already know what you're doing. My aim is for you to leave feeling more confident than when you arrived.
Not at Fabulous Pilates Club! I remember starting at 18 stone and feeling very aware of the glamorous Pilates image, with the matching outfits and perfect hair! That's one of the reasons I created Fabulous Pilates Club. I want women of all shapes, sizes and ages to feel welcome, without worrying about how they look. You belong here exactly as you are.
Whatever you feel comfortable exercising in. You certainly don't need expensive matching Pilates sets! Grip socks are required and are available to purchase at the studio for £10 if you don't have your own.
One of the biggest things I learnt from having one-to-one Pilates sessions myself was just how important good technique really is. I began to understand the role of breathing, which muscles I should be engaging and how each movement should feel. That mind and muscle connection made such a difference to my understanding of Pilates. It's something that can be harder to appreciate in a busy group class, where the instructor has several people to guide. That's why I'm so passionate about one-to-one teaching. You'll have my full attention, with time to understand each movement, develop good technique and build confidence. And if you eventually decide to join group classes, you'll have a much better understanding of the foundations of Reformer Pilates.
Your first appointment is 60 minutes, giving us time to talk about your goals, introduce you to Reformer Pilates and begin moving at a pace that suits you. I remember how important it was to feel comfortable when I first started, and I want you to have that same reassurance.
Of course. You can send me an enquiry with any questions, or request a free 15-minute discovery call if you would rather chat. There is no pressure to book. If you choose a call, simply suggest three times that suit you and I’ll email you to confirm.
